Weight loss help in Amsterdam East: train with a coach

Looking for weight loss help in Amsterdam East? At CrossFit Zeeburg on the Cruquiusweg, you train in a small group with a coach in every class. You do strength training and conditioning, at your level. You don't have to write your own programme. You begin with Your Strong Start: 28 days of training three times a week, with a measurement at the start and at the end.

Let me be honest: I'm not going to promise you a number on the scale. Losing weight depends on what you eat, how you sleep and how you move. What we do is make sure the training actually happens. And that you keep it up, because that's usually where it goes wrong.

Starting is something almost everyone manages. Then work runs late, the sofa wins and next week turns into next month. That's not on you. Sticking with it on your own is just really hard.

Why strength training works better than cardio alone

When you want to lose weight, what you really want to lose is fat. Not muscle. But if you only cut back on food, you often lose a fair bit of muscle too. You don't want that. You need your muscles to stay strong in everything you do day to day.

Strength training helps you keep your muscle while you lose weight. That's the whole point. Your muscles need a real job to do. If they don't get one, your body stops using them and you lose them. Training is the biggest factor here.

Cardio is great for your fitness, and we do plenty of it. But just running laps or cycling isn't the answer on its own. Want to know more about how we train strength? Have a look at strength training in Amsterdam East.

How we do it: training, rhythm and eating habits

You walk in, the workout is ready and a coach keeps an eye on you. So you don't have to figure out what to do or which weight to grab. You just show up and we take care of the rest.

Every exercise gets scaled. That means we adjust the weight, the distance or the movement to fit you. Not pointlessly easy, but right for you and safe. You don't need to be fit to start. You do need to be willing to train.

Besides the regular CrossFit class, the WOD (workout of the day, the session everyone does that day), we also have classes with their own focus, such as StrongLifts, Weightlifting and Hybrid Endurance. You'll find them all on the schedule.

Rhythm matters most. There are classes early in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening and at the weekend. Check the schedule and pick fixed slots that fit your week. Then you don't have to think about it again every single day.

And food? Of course that's part of it. But we're not dietitians and we won't hand you a diet. If you want help with what you eat, a dietitian or your GP is the right place. We make sure the training works, and that you stick with it.

Dealing with health issues or an injury, have a medical reason to lose weight, or are you on medication, such as weight loss medication? If in doubt, check with your GP or physio first. We'll adjust the exercises to fit, but we don't take over the role of your doctor or physio.

Your Strong Start: 28 days to build the habit

With Your Strong Start you build a solid routine in 28 days. You train three times a week, so that's twelve coached sessions. At the start we measure where you are: a body measurement and a fixed test workout. At the end we do it again. I'm not going to promise you anything. I'm just going to measure it.

Your Strong Start costs €99. We only take on three new people a week. That way the coach really has time for you. You'll find everything about how it works on Start here.

Coaching: group class or personal training

You can get coached weight loss support with us in two ways. You can train in a group class or one-on-one. Which one fits depends on what you need.

OptionWhat you getA good fit if
Group class in a small groupA coach in every class, a workout that's ready for you, people around you who show up tooYou're looking for a routine and like training with others
Personal trainingA coach just for you, everything at your paceYou're coming back from an injury or would rather start on your own first

Not sure whether you need a personal trainer or a group? Take a look at personal training. It explains when one-on-one really works better.

What it costs and where we are

You'll find us at Cruquiusweg 96F in Amsterdam East. Close by if you live in Zeeburg, IJburg, the Indische Buurt or the Oostelijk Havengebied.

After Your Strong Start you can become a member. Training twice a week costs €96 per four weeks on a 12-month contract. Unlimited training is €111 per four weeks on the same term. Access to Yoga Zeeburg is included with every membership. All options and terms are on the pricing page.

A regular gym is often cheaper, I get that. There you usually train alone, with a plan on paper. Here the workout is ready and there's a coach in every class. For a lot of people, that's exactly the difference between starting and keeping it up.

28-Day Strong Start

Want it to stick this time? Start with a steady routine.

With Your Strong Start you train with a coach who watches every exercise with you. We measure where you are when you begin and look at what's changed together at the end. That way you'll find out, without any hassle, whether this is the approach you'll keep up.

  • 12 coached CrossFit sessions in 4 weeks, around 3 a week
  • A personal starting assessment plus scalable Fit Test as your baseline
  • A midway check, so one busy week doesn't break your rhythm
  • Final assessment and repeat Fit Test: you see what changed

Frequently asked questions

Is strength training good for losing weight?

Yes. Strength training helps you keep your muscle while you lose weight. That way you mainly lose fat, not muscle. Combine it with conditioning and a routine you can keep up.

Do I need a personal trainer to lose weight?

Not necessarily. What you mostly need is a steady routine and someone who keeps an eye on you. You get that in a group class with a coach too. Personal training fits better if you have an injury or want extra attention.

Can I lose 5 kilos in a month?

Losing weight fast often costs muscle too, and you don't want that. Slow and sustainable usually works better. If you want a specific goal or pace, talk to your GP or a dietitian.

I'm not very fit. Can I still join?

Yes. Every exercise is scaled to your level. You start where you are now and the coach adjusts the weights and movements. If you have any health issues, check with your GP first.

Can I train while using weight loss medication?

Often you can, and that's exactly when strength training helps you hold on to your muscle. Do check with your GP first. We'll adjust the training to fit.
